Is one week ok 2 b out of work for TT surgery Comments plz
« on: December 31, 2007, 03:23:00 pm »
I took off 5 weeks, went back to work for 6 days and then had (am still enjoying) 11 days of vacation.  So pretty much I\'ve been off work for 2 months.

I could NOT have gone back to work at one week.  I have a desk job, but I couldn\'t have done it none the less---

Yep, that\'s ambitious.  Most ladies need the full two weeks.  I went back pt on the 8th day and the first day was a bit rough.  Took the 9th off and back for 5hrs on the 10, 11, 12th days and then full time at 15days.

I had about the best recovery anyone could have w/ little pain, easy getting around, no issues sleeping- so I would say I\'m the exception to the rule.---

I\'m just wondering because my job isn\'t going to let me take that much time off, I can see it now, I have to save my vacation time and I want to get this done at the end of February.  I will have 1 week by then

What do you do?

I think it would be pushing it, and I\'ve had a pretty easy recovery so far.  But if you HAD to go back after a week, and it was a desk job, maybe...---

Yes, I have a desk job, that is the only reason I\'m considering a week....Sometimes I have to travel but then again I will be sitting once I get to my destination

Best of luck with the decision.  Do not push yourself if your body is not
ready.  I don\'t know when my body is ever ready... I just push and do ALL
the time like most moms do.---

You may still have a drain or drains in at one week. You really cannot go into work with drains hooked up to you.  They aren\'t easy to hide.  And you won\'t feel like wearing normal clothes by then. I would not have been able to go back to work at one week.  Or it would have been difficult.  I would save as much time as you can ahead of time.  Even if things go smoothly you aren\'t going to feel like getting out and about for at least 2 weeks.  Best of luck.---

I\'m pre-surg, so I should probably keep my 2 cents out of this one...but I\'m just wondering how much you have read of this forum?  If you asked my opinion, I\'d say that\'s not NEARLY enough recovery time!  I am a nurse.  I would MUCH rather see you wait until you could take a MINIMUM of 2-3 weeks off!---

My surgery is 1/2, and I am planning to go back 1/16 but told my boss that if I am not up to it, it will be 1/21 which is 2-1/2 weeks.---

>> or is that over doing it?

I am going back to work on Wednesday, at exactly three weeks post op and though my recovery has been relatively smooth, I still think stamina wise I could use another 7 days at least.

I am a teacher, so what I do takes stamina. I am going to listen to my body and take a half day each week if I need to do that.

It\'s your decision, but a week after this major surgery is really pushing it, especially if your drains are still in. I still struggle some to stand up completely straight and I am still not comfortable in my professional clothes yet.

Take care and I pray God gives you His wisdom,

Ty

Hey sweetie...there are several of us teachers here on the forum!  I teach little ones and going back at day 19 was a toughie!  It wasn\'t that I was not healed or anything, just tired.  Stamina is a good word....I didn\'t have enough of that at the time, but I pushed through.  The biggest mistake I made was that I returned on a Monday.  I had the whole week to get through.  By Friday, I was wiped out!  I wished I\'d returned on a Wed or Thursday, so I could rest all weekend after just working 2 days.  Oh well, it\'s in the past now.  Live and learn I guess!  Good luck to you going back.  Watch those kiddie hugs...they are sweet, but hurt!---

Awwww...As we say in Tennessee...Bless Your Heart!!!  That is quite a story...and you know what?  With anything that happens with me, I have ALWAYS been one to have the worst complications possible!!!  So..while I\'m NOT planning on that, it is good to know.  I really hate that for you!  Did they ever find out the origin of the infection???  When I had TMJ surgery back in 2001, my jaw slipped as soon as I threw up fresh out of surgery, and I had to have it again in about  a month.  That time, they put a metal plate in so it couldn\'t slip.  About 7 months after that, I woke up one morning with a HUGE swollen jaw!  To make a really long story short, my body was rejecting the plate. They removed the plate and sent me home.  In a few hours, the hole in the inside of my mouth burst open---ALL the stitches!  I went back and they sewed it up again. The next morning, it had burst open again.  This time, the Dr. said he was going to let it heal from the inside out, because it was obvious it was not going to hold stitches.  I ended up getting a horrible infection---all the way to the bone!!  Osteomyelitis.  I was in the hospital 12 days, then sent home with a pic line and had to give myself IV antibiotics for another 2 weeks!!!  So I know your pain, Sweetie!!!---

Hi Mila,
I took three weeks off and could\'ve used four but the week I went back was a short 2 day week (due to Christmas) then I had another 3 days off then was back today and then off tomorrow for New Years Day.  So it hasn\'t been too bad.  There\'s no way I could\'ve gone back with only one week off...and I didn\'t even have any drains!
I do hope you\'ll consider taking more time off to recover.  You need your rest to ensure your body will heal.  After all this is a very invasive procedure.
Good Luck to you! \":-)\"---
