Scared to death

I wouldnt freak out just yet. You have reasonable expectations, just have a contingency plan in case  you have some complications.

I drove on day 10, back at work(desk job) day 13 and at gym week 6. I did have a seroma that needed to be drained about 4 times. Just take it easy and you should be fine.---

Thank you so much.  I truly appreciate your kind words.  You give me hope
after 11 days and feeling good.  How long were you sick???  I am nervous
about getting sick with the meds.  Also I am worried about my children.
One is 8 the other 4 and my husband will be taking great care of them and my mother is going to stay for 2 weeks to help me.  But I worry about my children
seeing there "supermom" down and out for sometime.  How long were you out of it and REALLY hurting??

Thanks for the kind words and best of luck with your recovery.---

Hello Tennismom!

The more you are in shape, the easier it will be to bounce back.  With your husband and your mother to help out, you should have no problem.  I am 14 days PO today.  Live alone and had only help for the first 2 days.  It wasn\'t easy, but managable.  With help and older children, you will be able to rest and recouperate.  I am driving.  Waited until day 11 to drive, only because I have a stick shift and didn\'t want to push it.  I only took pain meds for the first 3 days, then nothing.  The first few days are the worst, but if your children underatand you will not be feeling well for a few days, there should be no problem.  HTH---

I got sick only twice, right after eating fruit 1 day PO, and it was not fun.  They can give you anti-nausea stuff, though, which really really helped me.  My kids are 3 and 1, and quite high maintenance, and that was my biggest worry going into surgery.  My husband has been great taking care of them, and my mom/sisters/MIL have been helping.  At first, they just took them for outings while I rested, which was great.  I think your kids will be your little nurses and help you feel better.  I don\'t think they\'ll be traumatized or anything like that.  The first week was the hardest for me..and the first few days were not pretty.  I\'m just now starting to not hurt so much, but keep in mind the lipo I had.  I\'d be a lot more mobile and in a lot less pain if it weren\'t for the lipo.  Actually, I\'d be feeling great!  And you didn\'t say you having lipo, so you would be better off than I am.  I think the general consensus is that 2 weeks is when people start to feel "human" again, and 3 weeks is when things really start feeling better.  I hope, somewhere in my rambling, that I\'ve helped a bit!  \":-P\"---

I sort of did the same thing.  Was so excited when I scheduled my surgery, then a week out....I started thinking.......hmm.......how much is this going to hurt?(Not 10% of what I thought it would be!)
Will I wake up from anesthetic and be in terrible pain?(No I wasn\'t)
Will this be worse than a c-section that I had with my twins? (NO, not even half as bad.  Maybe like 25% as bad.  Seriously.  I guess because my uterus was cut also....?)
I think the description of what they will be doing is FAR more scary sounding than it actually is!  For real.
The worst part, for me, was the dry heaves and how much that hurt, during the first 12-16 hours, when I tried to get out of my hospital bed.  EVERY DAY GETS BETTER AND BETTER!
I am sooooooooooooo glad I did this and I have NOOOOOOOOOO regrets!  Happy days are here to come for you!  And me!!
Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi tennismom!
I drove the kids back and forth to school the second week after my surgery but would come straight home and rest after that.  I don\'t know about tennis at 6 weeks because I don\'t play.  It seems like all that reaching, etc would be painful.  I started on the treadmill at week 5 and spinning class at week 6.  I\'m going to attempt step class this week... I think.\":-)\"
Good luck with your surgery.  I will be thinking about you!---

If you weren\'t nervous and second guessing you wouldn\'t be normal.  With such great support and help from your family, you should do very well.  Just be sure to ACCEPT that help and lie low.  Your children are old enough to understand that Mom had something on her body fixed and needs to really rest and not move around a lot for awhile.  Wishing you all the best! \"\"---

I started freaking out about 2 weeks before my surgery.  (It was also when the news came out about Kanye West\'s mom.)   I was so scared and anxious that I tried to change my date and even cancel.  I was told a big NO and would not get a cent back.  (I had paid in full 30 days prior to scheduled date.)
I was scared about having to travel for work at Day 11, preparing for the holidays, carting my kids back and forth to all their activities b/c DH works evening shift, and just the thought of going under anesthesia.

Now having been through the surgery and having to travel for work and prepare for the holidays, it really was worry for nothing.  I can honestly say the pain was manageable and the worst part of the experience was the drains.  And since they only lasted 17 days, I have no complaints.

I wish I would have had the nerve to do it 10 years ago after my last daughter was born.  For 10 years I talked myself out of it. If I would have known about this board 10 years ago, I know I would have had the confidence and knowledge to go through with it.  So basically, I have suffered with my insecurities about my stomach when I really didn\'t need to.

My advice....GO FOR IT!!!!!!

You will be so happy!---

It\'s totally normal to be scared, we all were!! Everyone heals differently so you never know how fast you will heal. I was one of the lucky ones and was up and running around pretty fast after recovery. I was back at work 10 days PO, running errands, taking my boy to Boy Scouts, and even had to work at my kids little school carnival 2 weeks PO. Yes, I was tired as heck and had some swelling by the end of the day, but it was all doable 2 weeks PO. Don\'t worry! Everything will fall into place. Good luck with your upcoming surgery!!---

If I was scared to death, I wouldn\'t do it.  If you\'re scared to death, then it\'s not time for you.  Being scared is Nature\'s warning. I\'d listen to myself if I were you.

I don\'t think being scared means that you should put it off.  I was SO anxious about everything and I think most of us were.  As soon as I came out of recovery I knew I would never regret it, and I was thrilled.  You\'ll do great.---

I\'m pre-surg, too...and for awhile there, I felt scared to death!!!  But...I have been on this board a LOT!!!  What I have learned, is that yes, it\'s HARD...but everyone lives to tell about it!  I have seen some jump back to normal after just a couple of weeks, and others it takes longer!  I plan on LONGER!!  But..everyone I have heard say, says they would do it again in a heartbeat for the flat tum tum!!!  My surgery is Jan.31, and I can\'t wait!!!  Just say a prayer and be calm!!  Take some deep breaths!  IT WILL BE OK!!!  Hugs!  \"\"---

Hi there, tennismom..\":waving:\"  It is scary going through surgery, especially when it\'s elective.  There are so many other emotions that you go through, as well.  But we all made it, and we\'re all glad we did it and would do it again.  (Just don\'t read the posts when we\'re 2-5 days out, lol..)  With you being in good shape (I\'m assuming because you play tennis) your recovery should be easier.  You may be able to do your car pooling 2 weeks out, and may even be able to hit the courts after 6 weeks.  Just make sure you take it VERY easy for the first few weeks.  You\'ll need to listen to your body. And be prepared for it to take longer than 6 weeks, so you won\'t be disappointed. Your recovery will have to be your first priority..you want the best results you can get, and only you can heal yourself.  Your doctor just facilitates the process.  I\'m 11 days out and feeling pretty good..I can walk around fine and pick up things from the floor. (slowly, but hey, I can still do it!)  I had a ton of lipo done too, and if I didn\'t, I\'d be feeling much better than I do.  Everyone is here for you, so don\'t hesitate to ask for help/support.  \":-)\"

And here\'s a tip that helped me when I was freaking out Pre-Op:  Ask your doctor for some anti-anxiety medication to help you through the particularly rough times.  It really helped me.  That, and focusing on the results.  11 days out, I\'m swollen, but I would take this over my pre-op belly ANY DAY.  Good luck, and we\'re here for you!  \":-)\"---
