my ANKLES are twice bigger 2 days after the surgery
« on: June 04, 2006, 07:06:00 pm »
I had my thighs, knees, abs and arms done 3 days ago. What bothers me the
most is my legs, ankles and feet are so so so swelling. It scares me. is
it normal? when is the worse time? when will it go away? HELP

Don\'t panic!  As Anne said, it is common to swell.  My PS did not warn me about this or tell me anything about it, it was Anne who did.  :)  I learned a great deal from her.

My ankles were really bad.  I had pretty extensive lipo too.  It took a long time of patience, drinking lots of water, lymphatic drainage massage, (which worked, but you need it consisitently and it got too expensive for me), and even diuretics.  MY general doc even had me wear theraputic pantyhose for a while.  That was FUN in the heat of August/September!!!  :)

Hang in there, it does get better.  Try to stay off your feet right now and elevate them.  Drink TONS of water too!---

I had lipo to multiple areas 5 days ago & had a low of swelling from mid-thigh to mid-calf. I found that by laying down & putting a real fluffy pillow directly under my knees it helped reduce the swelling. Good luck. :) Judy

You are VERY early and things could get worse for up to 2 months or so... I had VISIBLE swelling for 8 months but the absolute worst was the 2 week to 3 month period... your ankles are going to be the worst because swelling is affected by gravity... Swelling WILL take a full year to go away... lipo is VERY traumatic to the body... it takes a long time to heal...

It may or may not be... you will find that you have good days and bad ones...

I am surprised... did your PS not explain the swelling situation to you?  Many girls here do not find out until after surgery just how bad and how long the swelling is... it\'s a shame they are not more honest...

My PS mentioned about the swelling, but he didn\'t tell me it would be on my
feet and would be that bad. I did some research on the internet, there are
so little info about this. They all talk about the swelling and bruise on
the treated areas. I called my doctor, he told me it\'s ok, no need to
 worry. However, I still worry.
Thank you for both of you. feel relief now :)
By the way, can you tell me how long is the swelling stay on your ankles?

Keeping in mind that everyone is different...

Mine went on for months.  BUT... I had my surgery at the end of June (tummy tuck w/lipo to upper abs, arms, flanks, hips, and inner and outer thighs), and didn\'t go back to work until the first week of September, (I\'m a teacher.)That\'s when the swelling REALLY set in.  I was on my feet all day.

Again, everyone is different, and yours may be minimal.  The key word here?  P-A-T-I-E-N-C-E!!!!  :)---
