Going under?
« on: May 17, 2006, 05:22:00 am »
am about to under go lower lid surgery. something i have wanted to do for years. my major concern is the anesthesia. i would much rather be awake with just local for numbing. but my doctor wants me to have sedation which i making me very anxious. it would be a conscious sedation. and my question is just what does this do to you and how does it make you feel. when i had my daughter c section the gave me demerol, and i hated they way it made me feel, dizzy and far out ,so much i got out of bed and wanted to leave the hospital
so if you could give me some insight on this type of sedation they give you to just make you relax i would be grateful.

                                                  thank you

m surprised your MD wants to put you under for a lower bleph...usually they do it locally. Do you have a pre-existing condition like a really high anxiety level that factors into his/her decision? The anesthesia you will probably get is called twilight sleep which is a heavy sedative given I.V. before he numbs the eyelid locally. you will kind of be awake but not really...most people love the effects of twilight sleep, especially if you are the anxious type, it will helps. But I\'d ask why he wants to put you out for a procedure that usually is done with lidocaine injected into the lid (same stuff dentists use before drilling teeth).  hope this helps and keep me posted...I\'m nosy about this stuff!!!
