NoseJob (Rhinoplasty)
« on: June 22, 2006, 02:24:00 am »
there everyone! I\'m a young white male from South Africa, i\'m going to undergoe surgery in a month\'s time...there are a few questions i\'de like to make regarding rhinoplasty and its concerns.

I\'ve had a lot of excellent feedback from preavious patients on the sugeons work, i\'m quite confident that he knows what he\'s doing and that he can do what i need.
One question, How is the pain after the op and what condition do you feel afterwards? I\'m afraid of anastetic complications but also afraid of the pain afterwards, could anyone give me some advice?

ar Becky,

How you feel after the surgery depends on how well you react to anesthesia and whether the surgery is performed under general or local anesthetic.  Some people experience nausea after general anesthetic but it should not last more than a few hours after you recover (wake up).  I have had general twice without any problems, but I have a personal preference for local anesthetic, which I have had many times.  You should discuss the pros and cons and all of your options with your doctor beforehand so that you know what to expect.

Hope all goes well and we wish you all the best,

ar TuneS ,

Good news - there is virtually no pain after a nose job.  I think I may have taken one aspirin the night after mine but that was it.  Recovery is hard for other reasons.  First, you look terrible.  Second, it can take a long time.  You won\'t see the full results for about a year, during which time your nose settles-in.  The swelling can be bad, as it was in my case.  The bruising usually fades within a week.  Read our medical overview at http://www.talksurgery.com/consumer/procedures/nose.html and our personal stories at http://www.talksurgery.com/consumer/stories/nose.html to get a good idea of what you can expect.  The most important thing is that you have excellent commmunication with your surgeon and that your expectations are realistic.

We wish you all the best and ask that you share your story when it is all over.
